South African Hockey Statement: In Memoriam – Haydn Townsend

It is with deep sadness that South African Hockey has learnt of the passing of our former Executive Member and valuable member of the South African Hockey family, Haydn Townsend.

Haydn served our hockey family with distinction, passion, and vision. His creativity and strategic insight helped elevate the profile of hockey in South Africa, ensuring our athletes and teams were showcased in a professional and inspiring way. Beyond his professional contributions, Haydn will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and commitment to growing the game he loved.

SA Hockey President, Deon Morgan, shared these words on the passing of his close friend:

“Haydn was more than a colleague, he was a friend and brother. His dedication to hockey and his belief in the power of sport to unite people left a mark on all of us. We will miss his wisdom, his laughter, and his support. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”

The entire South African Hockey community extends our heartfelt condolences to Haydn’s family, friends, and loved ones. His legacy will continue to live on in the sport he loved so dearly.
