South African Hockey has announced a 38-player SA U21 Men’s training squad as preparations begin for the Junior Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to take place in early 2027.
The continental competition will serve as Africa’s qualification event for the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup, to be staged in December 2027. The training squad marks the opening phase of South Africa’s campaign to secure its place on the global stage.
The group brings together players identified through the national pathway and the 2026 U21 Inter-Provincial Tournament. The extended training squad will allow the national programme to assess combinations, develop depth and create strong competition for places ahead of the continental qualifier.
Head of High Performance Reggie Smith said:
“The Junior Africa Cup of Nations is the first major target for this group, and qualification for the 2027 Junior World Cup must be earned. This squad gives us a strong platform from which to work and reflects the quality and depth coming through our national pathway. Over the coming months, every player will be challenged to raise his standards, compete consistently and contribute to a team capable of representing South Africa with pride on the continental and global stage.”
Details of training camps, the Junior Africa Cup of Nations host venue and confirmed competition dates will be communicated in due course. A final tournament squad will be selected closer to the event.
