The South African Hockey Men are headed to Poland for the second FIH Nations Cup from the 31 May – 9 June 2024. The tournament will serve as preparation for the men on their road to the Paris Olympics. The FIH Nations Cup is the tournament for the highest ranked teams not in the FIH Pro League with South Africa, New Zealand and France all heading to the Olympics.
South Africa are grouped in the larger pool A featuring five teams including hosts Poland and their European neighbours Austria. South Africa will also have to play Korea, who they defeated in the 2021 FIH Nations Cup semi-final and South African legend Greg Nicol’s New Zealand.
The top two teams from each pool progress to the semi-finals while teams finishing lower down will have to play off for positions.
Head Coach Cheslyn Gie has called up a strong team for the tournament with just three changes from the squad that secured passage to Paris by winning the African Hockey Road to Paris event in Pretoria last year.
Estiaan Kriek is recalled fresh from his club side Pinoke winning the Euro Hockey Tournament while Trevor de Lora and Connor Beauchamp both return to the side as well. The team will continue to be led by Dayaan Cassiem with a core group experienced players offering support.
Long serving striker Bili Ntuli will have the opportunity to play his 100th cap in the tournament.
Broadcast details and fixtures will be share on our various platforms.
