South Africa Take 2-0 Series Lead Against Namibia

South Africa secured a second consecutive victory over Namibia to take a 2-0 lead in the four-match series at Elkanah House.

The match was a significant occasion for Ongeziwe Mali and Marlise van Tonder, who both earned their 50th international caps, while Baylee Engelke made her senior international debut.

South Africa made the perfect start as Hannah Pearce netted her third goal of the series with another superbly placed drag flick.

The hosts were unable to build on the early breakthrough, however, as Namibia did an excellent job of disrupting the South African rhythm and spoiling their attacking opportunities.

Namibia also earned a couple of penalty corners of their own, but the South African defence held firm to deny their continental neighbours. At half-time, the score remained 1-0.

Kayla de Waal came close to adding a second from a penalty corner, only to be denied by an excellent save from Petro Stoffberg.

De Waal would not be denied for long. Great work from Stephanie Botha created the opportunity, and De Waal showed tremendous composure to finish and double the South African advantage.

South Africa secured the victory and a 2-0 lead in the series, but they will be disappointed with the quality of their conversion after creating several promising opportunities.

The third Test takes place on Thursday at 17:00 at Elkanah House.
