In loving memory of Cassa Cassiem

South African Hockey mourns the passing of Cassa Cassiem, a devoted hockey man, coach, mentor and proud father whose impact on the game will be felt for generations.

Cassa was a talented player in his own right, representing WP Juniors, Unicorns Hockey Club, SASSSA and Central Hockey Club, before naturally transitioning into coaching. It was through coaching that his true gift shone — shaping lives, building character and sharing a deep love for the game with countless young players.

His passion for hockey inspired his sons, Dayaan Cassiem and Mustapha Cassiem, who today stand among the most exciting and respected players South Africa has produced on the world stage. His legacy lives on through them, and through the many players he guided along their journeys.

Gary Dolley, SA Hockey Project Manager, paid tribute:

“As we mourn the untimely passing of Cassa, we are humbled by this gentle giant’s contribution in shaping and changing so many lives through his hockey coaching.

Cassa’s transition from playing to coaching was natural. His love for hockey most definitely inspired his sons Dayaan and Mustapha to become the most exciting hockey players currently in South Africa and indeed world class.

For Cassa, hockey was more than a game, it was a way of life.”

South African Hockey extends its deepest condolences to the Cassiem family and all who were touched by Cassa’s life. We stand with you in gratitude, remembrance and respect.

Rest in peace, Cassa.
Your legacy endures. 🕊️
