South African Hockey has today announced the SA Hockey Men’s team for the African Hockey Road to Paris 2024. The tournament offers the winner a place at the Paris Olympics while the second placed team will be invited to the FIH Olympic Qualifiers to be held in January.
The extended men’s squad have been in camp and the team has been announced for the tournament, with the men opening their campaign with a game against Zimbabwe on Sunday evening.
The SA Men will continue to be led by Dayaan Cassiem, while Young Player of the FIH World Cup Mustapha Cassiem is also included. Keenan Horne, Bili Ntuli and Dan Bell are the most experienced players in the squad while at the other end of the spectrum the likes of Zenani Kraai and Anton van Loggerenberg will look to get themselves into double figures in the cap’s column.
Coach Cheslyn Gie was excited for the opportunity to get underway.
“We have had some superb work put in at the training camp this week and the guys are raring to go. I have been tremendously impressed with the condition of the players both physically and mentally. After a long period without international hockey, we can’t wait for the first games to begin.”
