South African Hockey has today announced the SPAR South Africa Indoor Hockey Women side for the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup in Croatia in February 2025. This will be the fifth Indoor World cup appearance for South Africa having first debuted in 2003 in Leipzig. They will be hoping to emulate and improve on the performance of the team in 2023 FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup where they charged their way to semi-finals, finishing in fourth place.
The team features eight players from the squad that earned their place in the Semi-Finals of that historic home-based World Cup. That group of players features some of the most experienced players in SA Indoor hockey including Jamie Southgate (95 caps), Tegan Fourie (71), Cheree Greyvenstein (70) and Edith Molikoe (69).
Malikah Hamza and Sarah Paget who made their debuts in the victorious title winning Tuanku Zara Cup side and have cemented their place in the team. While the other two members of the team that were not part of the previous World Cup are Laylaa Davids and Cailynn den Bakker.
The South Africans, currently ranked 7th in the world, will open their World Cup campaign against Thailand on the 3 February, before taking on 2023 runners up Austria and then completing the group stage with a match against European heavyweights Poland.
