The South African Indoor Hockey Women had already confirmed their spot in the final when they took on the Swiss on Friday morning in Malaysia. For Switzerland a shock defeat to Malaysia had meant that this game was a must win in order to themselves qualify for the gold medal match.
In truth Switzerland were the better team on the day and ran into a four-goal lead at the 23rd minute. The young South Africans, the oldest player is 25, showed some fight in the third quarter when Tegan Fourie netted her 7th goal of the tournament.
Despite the fight back South Africa and another Cailynn den Bakker goal Switzerland continued their upper hand and secured a 6-2 victory.
The two sides will meet again on Saturday in the final having finished in the top 2 positions of the tournament. The winner will be the champion of the Tuanku Zara Cup Final.
In the bronze medal match Australia will take on Malaysia while Namibia finish 5th and New Zealand 6th.
