The South African Women’s Hockey team have begun the next part of their programme with a tour to Chile. Chile are currently preparing for the Pan American Game in Santiago and will be taking on the South Africans as well as the Koreans.
For the South Africans the six tests are a vital step in the development towards their attempts to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. The opportunity to play a team ranked 8 places above them is a great opportunity to show lessons have been learnt since the teams two meetings at the FIH Hockey Nations Cup in Valencia in December, both of which were won by the South Americans.
The South African team feature many of the players that played in the FIH Hockey Nations Cup in Valencia as well as recent tests against India in the Summer Series. The experienced Quanita Bobbs will be vital alongside the likes of Celia Seerane, Erin Christie and Tarryn Lombard. With the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup complete the quartet of Edith Molikoe, Kayla de Waal, Robyn Johnson and Tegan Fourie return to the squad as well. There is also much expected of the exciting Ntsopa Mokoena and Taheera Augousti as they continue their education in the game of International Hockey.
